Hello,
I am currently working on a survey of archaeological finds of peacock on
British sites dating from c.1000-1500 A.D. I have already identified quite
a few such sites, and have listed them below. Is anyone aware of finds on
sites of similar dates other than the ones I have listed?
Carisbrooke Castle, IOW; Faccombe Netherton, Hampshire; Eastgate, Beverley,
Yorkshire; Hereford city, Herefordshire; Middleton Stoney, Oxfordshire;
Cuckoo Lane, Southampton; Manor of Beaurepaire, County Durham; Canterbury
Cathedral Precinct, Kent; Wells Museum Garden, Somerset; Odiham Castle,
Hampshire; Rattray Castle, Aberdeenshire; Castle Rising, Norfolk; Wickham
Glebe, Hampshire, and finally, Brighton Hill South, Hampshire.
I haven't been able to obtain a copy of the Beaurepaire report, and
wondered if anyone was aware of the quantity of peafowl remains discovered
there, but also at Brighton Hill South?
Finally, is anyone aware of the dates of the peafowl remains from Odiham
Castle and Rattray Castle?
Apologies for the long e-mail, but any help provided would be greatly
appreciated.
Thankyou for your time,
