Hi Jacqui,
I did indeed record the foetal/neonatal bones from West Hes!
Unfortunately the data have been archived and are not readily accessible
to give you numbers, but plotting cattle neonates did produce a
concentration in one Anglian enclosure which was interesting.
Medieval Wharram also seems to produce between 1-2% neonates for cattle
and sheep (analysis still ongoing).
All the best, Jane

Subject: [ZOOARCH] Foetal domestic stock
Dear all, another milk related enquiry.....
How many people have recorded foetal bones from their sites? I know I
used to record them from West Heslerton (Jane did you quantify them in
the end?) and have seen them occasionally on other large assemblages
outside the Outer Hebrides.
Do people normally quantify them? I am interested in infant mortality
from a wide range of sites and would like to see more information on
foetal/neonatal bone recorded. Any examples of sites with quantified
foetal material would be welcome, or any information on the death of
pregant females and abortion rates in domestic stock.
Hope it less rainy where ever you all are.
Happy Halloween for tomorrow.
