The Celts did worship hares (or at least had some sort of respect for
them)for their speed and for fertility, etc. Boudica & the celts were
said to have released a hare prior to battle for good luck. As far as I
know the Celts didn't like to eat them, which would have probably given
the Romans even more enjoyment in doing so!
