Call for Papers - REMINDER
III International Workshop on Zooarchaeology
of South American Camelids
organized by
Grupo Zooarqueología de Camélidos
(GZC – ICAZ)
The general theme of this workshop is The
Management of South American Camelids. Its aim is to
examine the variety of approaches used to address
management practices based on archaeological,
historical, ethnographical and biological information.
Harvest profiles, seasonality indicators, diet markers,
and use patterns of primary and secondary products
are central to understanding the different strategies
employed by ancient hunters & pastoralist, present
traditional agro-pastoral groups, and current
programmes of sustainable use. Considerations about
the interface between economic, social and symbolic
aspects are also open to discussion.
Two full days will be devoted to paper presentations
and other two for seeing vicuñas and llamas and
some interesting archaeological sites at several
locations in the Puna of Argentina. An e-brochure
will be sent soon with details on registration fees,
accommodations and meal options.
Those interested in participating are encouraged to
contact the organizers via e-mail before July 15th,
providing a title of the presentation and an abstract of
200 words (maximum) in Spanish, English, or
French.
The meeting will be held at the picturesque town of
Tilcara, located in the Quebrada de Humahuaca,
Jujuy, Argentina, in August 21-25, 2003.
