Dear Gordon
I think unlike ethanol is not saturation kinetics, so
depends on amount ingested. Half-life ranges between
15-30 hours, but can be a lot shorter.

GC> Dear colleagues
GC> we have just had a patient in, who after running
GC> out of scotch on a Sunday evening deciding to
GC> drink car windscreen wash fluid
GC> and coke as an alternative. On the admission
GC> sample, his blood methanol was 107
GC> mg/ 100 ml.
GC> Two questions have arisen as a result of his
GC> subsequent treatment.
GC> 1. What is the expected clearance of methanol
GC> either with or without a standard ethanol infusion?
GC> 2. What are the generally used units of
GC> reporting for alcohols such as methanol: mg/
GC> 100 ml (cf potentially medico-legal
GC> ethanols in the UK); mg/L or ug/ml (used by the Forensic Science
GC> Service(?); or mmol/L. Particularly when
GC> seeking advice from outside agencies
GC> such as the National Poisons Information Service in the UK,
GC> there is obviously room for widespread
GC> confusion here (and has been in this
GC> Case).
GC> Any information would be gratefully received
