medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Cecilia,
A very interesting question! I'd simply recommend you consider something you know far better than do I: what *politically* propagandistic motive might there be in trying to get Louis IX (or *any* saint) recognized as a martyr? I think that those paying for the canonization process might be anxious, if appropriate, to get their candidate recognized as a martyr if the sponsor's political enemy was responsible for the martyrdom.
Best wishes, George
