i'm of the ideological opinion that the sons of "peasants" becomming
monks/canons --much less abbots/dignataries/bishops-- in this period were
very, very rare birds indeed.
i assume (since i read it on the web) that Dominic's origins are reliably
attested.
does anyone know of other instances of suchlike occurances --pre-13th c.,
since Times Changed, after that ?
and, thanks Phyllis, for the constant supply of material to exercise the
idle
mind with even more idle questions.
