medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Speaking with no authority whatever, I can only relate a similar
circumstance. When I was a boy the Mass was said in Latin and one had
a missal with Latin on the left page and English on the right. It did
not take very long, whether or not one ever studied a word of Latin,
though if one went to a Catholic school he certainly did, to know the
whole Mass without the use of the missal. I suggest that your
princesses may have had a similar experience. yrs, tom ault
