COMMUNITY PROFILING
CILIP workshop - two separated days: 18 February & 13 March 2003, London
Recent library initiatives such as Annual Library Plans, Social Inclusion and Comprehensive Performance Assessments require a detailed knowledge of a library authority's users and potential users.
Community profiling is recognised as a vital stage in planning a service that will meet the needs of the community it serves. This workshop sets out to explain how it's done, and what can be done with the data gathered.
BENEFITS FROM ATTENDING
This workshop will, over two days (separated by a period of time to use the tools and techniques presented on the first day), outline approaches to community profiling.
The first day will advise on appropriate tools and techniques that can be used to deliver a profile that can be put to use in library planning. Day Two will look at how the completed Community Profile can be used as a context for the Annual Library Plan or for other initiatives.
Between these two highly practical workshop days delegates will be expected to begin creating their own example community profiles.
WORKSHOP LEADER: Terry Kendrick, Information Now Ltd
Terry Kendrick trained as a librarian in the late 1970s and worked in public libraries in Gloucestershire, Northumberland, Norfolk and Essex until the mid 1980s when he left to become a freelance information consultant. Since then he has undertaken marketing planning projects for over fifty organisations (from libraries to major international oil companies).
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
