Dear All,
Greetings from coastal Suffolk in England.
I was very pleased to see the high quality of discussion and exchange of
very useful information on the above topic. Although a lot has been said
already permit me to add a little bit more.
The nursing profession appears to have taken the lead in adapting and
implementing clinical practice guidelines.
In the United Arab Emirates (where I used to work untill recently), the
Ministry of Health launched an initiative to adapt & adopt guidelines from
various sources for local use. A group of lead professionals (opinion
leaders – physicians, nurses and other health professionals) were identified
for selected areas and were charged with the responsibility of adapting,
agreeing, adopting and implementing guidelines locally. This process might
vary in different countries and settings depending on the local conditions
and resources. I am sure the Guidelines International Net (GIN – What an
interesting acronym!!) is a welcome development and hopefully will provide
the much needed help and support (through cyberspace) to guideline adaptors
all over the globe.
