medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I'm not sure what you mean by "unusual" and you did
not specify period, but two thoughts come to mind. The
demon (temptor) of the Foolish Virgins at Strasbourg
is portrayed as a seductive youth of great charm under
the assumption that no one would be tempted by a
monster. And if you go to http://www.art-roman.net,
you'll find interesting demons galore. You will have
to wade through quite an assortment of church art,
but, hey, it's gorgeous. Try the tympanum at Autun for
some clever little devils trying to tip the scales in
which souls are being weighed. Also interesting are
the devils waiting for the Evil Rich Man's soul to
exit his mouth. Happy hunting.
