Yes, I recall having that feeling of "could this possibly be reliable?" in
reading quotes from Joyce and his contemporaries and the disappointment on
learning their value was chiefly historiographical. But the game of guessing
where Joyce got his ideas is also interesting, and as you say, it is better
to acquire an accurate, if incomplete, image of what the druids were like
rather than perpetuating Romantic-era notions.
