Recent historical treatments of Bellino give the year of his martyrdom (at Fratta Polesine) as 1147. He's one of the saints who as bishops implemented the Gregorian reforms in Italy and thereby earned the enmity of powerfully placed people in and about their cathedral cities. He's credited with establishing the first schools in medieval Padua and with securing the liberation of numerous serfs not only on episcopal estates but also on those of other lords in the area.
