medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
According to Farmer (Oxford Dictionary of Saints) Egbert of York brought
the feast to England in the eighth century, and it is already ranked as a
principal feast in a northern English calendar of the ninth century.
Farmer also mentions a letter of Alcuin of 799 encouraging celebration of
the feast and that Pope Gregory IV (d. 844) encouraged Louis the Pious to
extend the observance of All Saints day throughout the Carolingian Empire.
Hope this helps.
