medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
dilectissimi sapientes
I'm looking for the origins of the classical concetto "bird as a
feathered fish", and its symetric "fish as a scaled bird".
it is of course an endless quest, as it is a commonplace; but when?
I found an attestation in a late fifteenth century treatise, the hortus
sanitatis. Do you know earlier ones? Is this really a commonplace in the
middle ages? (I don't remind it in my readings)
friendly,
D. Hue
