Dear all,
Is anyone using mobile phone connection to make their mobile libraries
online, either for catalogue or internet.
I am trying to cost the various options for this. I am aware of Derby's
Delta set-up using Breezecom radio links, and any other system like this is
of interest too
I am interested in the honest practical irritations of any such systems, and
specifically if answering please give any info about:
* installation costs per vehicle (and per site if connecting via radio
to an aerial)
* running costs (especially for mobile phone based systems)
* Method of connection (e.g. permanently on, switching systems or
time-outs used to save money by eliminating online time during periods of
inactivity, including company names and contacts if known)
* Any practical problems with these (how reliable, amount of down
time, etc)
* The details of stops you do (length of time, public routes or
special services, )
* Anything else that either works well or gets on your proverbials
(e.g. works ok until the battery runs down on the vehicle thus losing the
lights and door operation, etc etc)
Anything from Devon or Fourways (is it?) setup would be of use as I know you
have used mobile phones
