All
I'm very sorry to have to let you know that Geoff Armitage, our reading room
supervisor here in the BL Map Library and known to many of you for his work
in British cartobibliography, was seriously injured last week in a road
accident near his home in Sutton, Surrey. He was hit by a car which ran a
red light, and sustained serious injuries to his pelvis, as well as other
injuries. He is in hospital near Sutton, but is expected to be moved soon to
another hospital with a team specialising in severe orthopeadic injuries. We
expect he will be away from the Library for several, if not many months, as
he will have to undergo probably a series of operations to overcome the
injuries to his pelvis.
His wife Sally says that he's doing better in the last few days and
suggested that it would do him good to hear from people. If you would like
to send a card or letter at this time, you can send it to him at home:

We'll keep you posted on how he's doing. Many thanks for your concern.
