Dear Rob
Authorware installed OK for us in Cambridgeshire - we use the player that
plays files created with ver 4, 5 or 6 of Authorware. We have had some
issues with it caused by the fact that some of its files sit in
winnt/system32 directory and thus cannot be modified by a restricted user
account in Win 2000 (as our public machine use). We have had to set
permissions specifically for this folder in order to get a couple of ld
courses that use Authorware to function properly.
There was a useful thread on the People's Network JiscMail list about
problems caused by plugins maybe a couple of weeks back - should be
available via the archive.
A bigger problem we are experiencing is the criteria some learning providers
place that no proxy caching is used. This has caused us problems with
learndirect in the past and is currecntly an issue with TestStation. We,
like most other large scale networks, use caching to speed up response
times. It seems baffling to me that the learning course providers don't take
this into account when designing their courses.

Subject: Learndirect and Authorware
I would be very interested to hear of any other libraries which are
accredited learndirect Centres which have had difficult installing
Authorware on their PCs. We are finding it almost impossible to do.
I would also be interested to know if learndirect's habit of using the
most up-to-date versions of software, eg Flash, causes problems.
