medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Marjorie,
I hadn't followed the earlier thread, though your question about
childrearing caught my eye.
The literature on medieval children and childhood is rapidly expanding,
and although I cannot put my finger on anything explicitly and
exclusively on childrearing practices, some of the following should be
of assistance:
--Shulamith Shahar, Childhood in the Middle Ages (Routledge, 1990)
--Barbara Hanawalt, Ties that Bound (Oxford, 1986); Growing Up in
Medieval London (Oxford, 1993); 'Of good and ill repute' (essays)
(Odford, 1998)
--Ronald Finucane, The Rescue of the Innocents (St. Martin's, 1997)
--Lewis, Menuge, & Phillips (eds.), Young Medieval Women (St. Martin's,
1999)
--Itnyre (ed), Medieval Family Roles (Garland, 1996)
--Mary Dockray-Miller, Motherhood and Mothering in Anglo-Saxon England
(St. Martin, 2000)
--Sally Crawford, Childhood in Anglo-Saxon England (Sutton, 1999)
--Ivan Marcus, Rituals of Childhood: Jewish Acculturation in Medieval
Europe (Yale, 1996)
