medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

<APPLAUSE> I am not and never have been a counseling professional, but, as
someone who works with mythology as often as history, I have a similar
reaction to those who use Jungian or other approaches to the study of
mythology. I can appreciate the use of such approaches in understanding
people today, but imposing "archtypes" and other principles on people who
lived thousands of years ago seems inappropriate and disrespectful to me:
inappropriate because people simply didn't look at the world or each other
the way we do today, and disrespectful because, by applying such principles
and assumptions to those peoples, we are essentially refusing to see them on
their own terms. I don't see how one can really understand another culture
if one does not treat its members, living or dead, with respect.
