Nice idea, but look at it another way.
Do you know of an email system which allows Autoreplies only for use internally,
but not externally? If you do, I'll argue here for it!
And when is an Autoreply not an Autoreply? When, like us, you have to use a Rule
to send a pre-scripted message, because the (ageing) email system doesn't have a
standard Autoreply function. Is there an email protocol for Autoreply, which
modern systems recognise and can filter on? If there is, it probably won't
recognise ours...
And we have an incompatibility between our email system and JISCMail - I can
send and receive messages to and from JISCMail lists, but can't use the command
processing to suspend them, as our email system bounces replies and I can't
confirm. We have a stand-off between our IT dept and JISCMail...
So if I don't use an Autoreply, I get shot internally, and if I do I get shot
externally?
Anyone got any practical solutions?
Regards
JU

There is a comparatively simple solution to this problem - a solution used
on another list to which I am subscribed.
The list owner decrees that autoreplies are *not allowed* and woe betide any
subscribers who ignore that ruling. The solution is that the subscriber is
removed from the list immediately!
Perhaps such a simple rule may be possible in this case?

Is it just me, or are you also heartly fed up with wading through
auto-replies and deleting them?
Do we really want to know if X is out of the office?
Any ideas/solutions?
Andrew
