i've been thinking about that, on and off, for 35 years.
i understand that the phrase itself comes, ultimately, from a psalm, but
always figured that the reminder of the more "immediate" context of the rule
was the real intent.
"Make a good note in Speculum," my old history prof. told me; but i just never
got around to it, somehow.
