medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
>Farmer points out that Urith is a Celtic name, and she may have been a >victim of the Saxons
...who were, of course, Christians (at least in name) by the time that Urith's part of the world, Devon (the eastern part of Dumnonia), was absorbed into the kingdom of the West Saxons. Indeed a correspondence took place between Bishop Aldhelm and the king (?Geraint) of Dumnonia. Farmer appears to have fallen for that old journalists' adage: Never let the facts get in the way of a good story, especially when there's the chance to bash the other guys.
