But there were places in Ireland where people refused to comply. They went
on celebrating holidays on the "old" date, or they celebrated both dates.
Refusals tended to take the form of "let's see when the bush blooms because
that's when we celebrate [insert holiday name]." The memory of the change
remained for over 200 years. Jack Santino in the 1980s found people still
referring to "Old Samhain" and they knew what it was--a remnant of the
calendar change.
