medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
To add to Christopher's niggle: we are told in Luke 1:41, that at Mary's
approach, the babe in Elizabeth's womb (John) leapt for joy. So John wasn't
born when Mary arrived. More serious, that chapter ends by telling us that
Mary stayed with Eliz about three months. Chapter 2 then narrates: _Now_ the
time came for Elizabeth's child to be born.
All very curious.

Forgive for adding yet more confusion, but I don't see how 2 July can be
the octave of the feast of St. John. As I understand it, the 8 days
comprising an octave are reckoned *inclusively*, i.e., including the day
from which they are counted -- in other words, the same day of the week,
but one week (7 days) later. By that standard, the octave of the feast of
St. John should be 1 July, should it not?
