Hi, Renfrewshire Libraries are buying CD-ROM games for children to use on
public access PCs. I am of the view that libraries are for recreation as
well as education, and don't think we should put restrictions on the kind
of games we buy so that we only buy "educational" CD-ROMs. However, some
people consider games without obvious educational benefits as
inappropriate for libraries. Some staff are worried about licensing
implications but I believe that as long as the CD-ROM is only available to
be used on one PC at a time and isn't networked then there is no problem.
I would be interested to find out other people's experiences in this area
and also how you deal with games with an age suitability guidance - e.g.
15+ - is this enforced? Finally, does anyone know of any good journals
which review recent CD-ROM games releases?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
