I found a dog jaw and other bones in a well I visit near Oxford. They were
modern bones and, as I also found a small red rubber ball, I thought perhaps
the dog had been chasing the ball and had fallen in, although this is
perhaps an unlikely scenario as the well is in woodland. Local people told
me that some 'strangers' had been lingering round the well with a black dog
about 10 years ago. Some unknown person also planted a new yew tree close
by the well which had obviously been purchased from a nursery. It seems as
if someone has been attempting to create symbols and myths around the well
or is perhaps carrying out some ritualistic practices of his/her own. Has
anyone else come across this kind of thing?
