Hello all:
Someone wrote to me off list about pebbles and wells and, after answering, I
deleted the message. Then today, I found something but can't send it
directly because I no longer have the mssage. So here it is:
In their book, _Fish, Stone, Water_ Rickard and O'Callaghan say on p. 30
that pilgrims at Tobhar Caoidhe in Foohagh, County Clare, perform nine
rounds and they toss pebbles to keep track of the rounds. I wonder if a
similar custom might be related to the collections of pebbles found at some
wells. Please note: they're not offerings, really, just markers to make sure
you don't lose track of how many times you've been round already.
