International Conference - Anthropology and the Health of Populations 20-22
June 2002, Brunel University, West London
There will be:
* workshops {led by international scholars and practitioners} including: health
care in refugee and migrant populations; the cultural context of HIV and
AIDS (with special reference to Africa); maternal and family health (with
special reference to Latin America); medicine and the state (with special
reference to Nepal), all between 4.30 and 6.30 on Thursday 21st.
* AND further workshops including: anthropology in medical and nursing education;
cancer and the person; ethnicity, conflict and mental health (with
special reference to Latin America); Anthropology and Tuberculosis: , all
at 4.30 to 6.30
on Friday 21st, except for the TB workshop which will start at 3.30
* presentations on national and international issues in streams throughout
the Conference, including a special stream on Latin America.
* plenary speakers: Mary Douglas, eminent anthropologist - 9am on Friday 21st;
Paul Farmer (Harvard) renowned scholar on international health - 2 pm on
Friday 21st; Robert Hahn (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
Atlanta) eminent scholar on the cultural aspects of public health - 2
p.m. on Thursday 21st
