4. THE LANGUAGES BOX - MARKETING MATERIALS
As you may already know, the Subject Centre is compiling a box of materials
to be used by HE departments when visiting schools and colleges and
hosting open days etc. We have emailed one contact in most HE modern
language departments asking if they were the most appropriate recipient of
the Box. A list of recipients will be posted on our website shortly. If you wish
to know who is to receive the Languages Box on behalf of your institution
please email the Subject Centre ([log in to unmask]). If you have not replied
to the email asking if you would like to receive the Box please email the
Subject Centre as soon as possible as Boxes will only be issued on receipt
of a confirmatory email.
5. DfES GREEN PAPER
The Subject Centre recently emailed the UCML response to the DfES
Green Paper to all its contacts. The Language Learning document that
was published alongside the 14-19 Green Paper can be downloaded from
the DfES website at: http://www.dfes.gov.uk/index.htm - select the
Green Paper section under Publications.
6. HE Progress Files
Recommended in the Dearing report, departments will be expected to provide
opportunities for personal development planning (PDP) by 2005. With much
good practice undoubtedly taking place already (e.g. logs kept during work
placements or residence abroad; reflective portfolios), we have been asked by
the Generic Centre to establish existing practice in our discipline areas. We
would be very grateful if you could spare the time to answer the five brief
yes/no questions below - even if you answer NO to all of them. Further
information on HE Progress Files/PDP and case studies can be found on the
Centre for Recording Achievement website:
http://www.recordingachievement.org
Many thanks - please email your replies (or forward this email) to
