for single blinded studies the two goups have to be unaware of the other
group. I critiqued a paper for runners knee in which they used an orthotic vs
a typical insole. If the typical insole group knew the others had got a fancy
orthotic they are likely to be disappointed and report higher levels of pain
(at least theoretically).
