We use scanners as photocopiers in small branches, because there are more
cost effective. The copyright is exactly the same no matter what equipment
you use.
We don't have any public scanning to file service, although this could be a
possibility if there was demand.
We don't allow customers to connect their own equipment to the People's
Network machines.

A copier *is* a scanner.
Surely the same rules apply, or am I missing something?
Probably a case for LACA (Library & Archive Copyright Alliance) at CILIP to
comment on?

Have any libraries confronted the issue of scanners and copyright? With
photocopiers there is a well-trodden path between the customer's needs and
the
rights of the intellectual property owner.
If we don't charge for the use of our People's Network equipment (including
scanners), or if we allow customers to bring in their own scanning
equipment,
where do we stand vis-a-vis copyright law?
