Dr. Poses,
I agree that this is a possibility that we are looking at natural
history. But
is it not also a possible that a small sample of the population with
asthma have
a variant of this disorder (or what appears to be asthma) that will
respond to
manipulative care? It should be noted that chiropractors are not the
only
manipulative therapists who have found this. K. Lewit an M.D. has also
found
this effect in patients and he finds it often.(1) Given your
explanation of the
natural history one would expect a relapse and in some cases that does
not
appear.
Please keep in mind I am not a proponent of manipulation as a treatment
for
asthma I do not recommend it to patients. I am just trying to be evenly
skeptical about both sides of the argument. I think there is a rush to
judgment
by both people in my profession and the medical profession to their
respective
points of view.
