CALL FOR PAPERS: MAIN CONFERENCE

ICADL 2002 is the fifth in a series of annual Asian Digital Libraries
conferences, and focuses on the use, adoption and adaptation of digital
libraries, which include work surrounding digital libraries and related
technologies, the management of knowledge in digital libraries, and the
associated usability and social issues. The theme of ICADL 2002 is Digital
Libraries: People, Knowledge & Technology.
Participation from diverse backgrounds is encouraged. Previous conferences have
included practitioners, researchers, educators and policy makers from a variety
of disciplines such as computer science, library and information sciences,
archival and museum studies, knowledge management, and many areas in the social
sciences and humanities.
Submissions on all areas are welcome and may include research, system,
evaluation, policy and position papers. Topics include but are not limited to:

* document genres and electronic publishing
* collection development and management
* intellectual property
* provision of services
* user communities
* web cataloging
* metadata and content
* digital preservation

ICADL 2002 is organized by the Division of Information Studies, School of
Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore
in collaboration with the NTU Library, National Library Board of Singapore, and
the Library Association of Singapore.
PAPER SUBMISSION
Both full papers and short papers will be accepted. Papers must be in English
with a limit of 10 pages for full papers (approximately 6000 words) and 2 pages
(approximately 1500 words) for short papers. Electronic submission
(http://piano.cais.ntu.edu.sg:8000/icadl2002/) will be used and accepted file
formats are PDF or Microsoft Word. All papers must be original contributions and
not previously published nor currently under consideration for publication
elsewhere.
Conference proceedings will be published as part of Springer Verlag's Lecture
Notes in Computer Science series. Selected papers from the conference will be
published in a special issue of Information Processing and Management.

POST ICADL WORKSHOP (14 December 2002, 2.00 to 5.30 pm)

There will be 2 sessions in the workshop for participants in the area of library
and information science education in Asia:
(1) Roles and Opportunities for E-Learning in the LIS Curriculum
- current and proposed e-learning initiatives
- traditional and non-traditional courses
- synchronous and asynchronous delivery
- evaluation techniques for e-learning initiatives
(2) Standards for Accreditation: Thinking About LIS Program Accreditation in
Asia
- major issues to be considered in undertaking accreditation
- how these might apply to Asian LIS programs
- evaluation and timelines for possible outcomes
PAPER SUBMISSION
Abstracts of 1 to 2 pages must be submitted to Elisabeth Logan at email:

submitted by August 20, 2002. All submissions must be in English and be original
contributions not previously published elsewhere. Abstracts and papers must be
in PDF or Microsoft Word format. Selected papers will be published in a special
issue of the Singapore Journal of Library and Information Management.
