MODERNISATION AND LIBRARIES: partnerships with public and private sectors

Seminar.
Aims: to look critically at some of the innovative examples of partnerships
in which public libraries are involved as they face up to the modernisation
agenda; and to probe some of the partnership issues that arise in the
planning, ownership, financing, management and delivery of modern services
to the user.
Issues to be addressed include the role of partnership in achieving
modernisation, the experience of PFI, joint ventures with the business and
private sectors, e-government and the opportunities for joined-up networks,
and the impact of modernisation as evidenced by Annual Library Plans.
Target audience: public library and other local government managers,
regional and government bodies, library co-operatives, partnerships and
consortia, private sector partners, library schools, and independent
consultants.
