medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (8. April) is the feast day of:
Dionysios of Corinth (d. 180) Dionysios was bishop of Corinth in the
second half of the second century. He was highly regarded and corresponded
with a range of communities and individuals about church matters.
Aidesios (d. c. 304) Aidesios was an Alexandrian. He was arrested in the
Great Persecution and sent to labor in a copper mine, but after his release
was arrested again and drowned in the Mediterranean.
Perpetuus of Tours (d. 491) Perpetuus, born in c. 415, became bishop of
Tours sometime before 461. He held office for at least 30 years,
continuing Martin of Tours' evangelization of the region and also promoting
the cult of Martin.
Clement of S. Elpidio (d. 1291) (blessed) Clement was born in c. 1220 in
S. Elpidio (Italy) From 1271 to 1274 and from 1284 until his death he was
general of the Augustinian order. His cult was approved in 1761.
Beata (Beatrix) (d. 1399) Not formally canonized. Beata of Mecklenburg
was abbess of the Clarissan convent of Ribnitz in Mecklenburg from 1350 to
1399. She was highly honored among the populace for her humility and care
for others, and in the order for her devotion to the order's rule and her
piety. She had a significant cult until the Reformation.
