Dear list,
currently disease management programs get introduced into the German health
care system. With that respect we are currently exploring the field of
Asthma diagnosis and got in serious discussion around spirometry and Peak
flow. All major treatment RCTs used peak flow measurements both for the
diagnosis and monitoring of Asthma, however, experts (in general pyhsicians
with the specialty pulmonology) demand obligatory spirometry (FEV 1
measurement).
To get an "evidence-based" international overview: is peak flow indeed for
some cases the appropriate initital verification for diagnosis?
Best greetings and thanks in advance
