NOF ADVANCED ROLES: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY GATEKEEPER
26 April, London
Many of the staff in your library should now have achieved the NOF Expected
Outcomes 1 - 8.
If so, now is the time to ensure you have staff within your service who are
trained to the higher levels of competence required by NOF through the
Advanced Roles workshops, as set out in chapter 11 of the Library and
Information Commission's 1998 report Building the New Library Network.
As part of CILIP's Public Library ICT Training Programme, approved by NOF,
we will be running this Advanced Roles course on 26 April in London. The IT
Gatekeeper course is described by NOF as being:
"Primarily concerned with the management and deployment of information and
communication technology in the library and with planning its use to develop
the service. At the service delivery level, the gatekeeper's role is to
provide support access to ICT in the library and to help people make the
most of the technology." (From: Building the New Library Network, 1998)
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* Examined the factors to be considered prior to designing an effective Web
page including the purpose of the page and who the page is for
* Explored how to use the key elements of Web page design such as tables,
links, bullet points and images
* Practiced designing a web page and incorporating key functions and
features
* Considered how to maintain a web site once it has been created, including
loading information, creating links, and keeping information up to date
WORKSHOP LEADER: PHIL BRADLEY
Phil's background is in the information profession and he is a highly
experienced trainer, web designer and internet consultant. He is well known
