medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear all
Being very new to this list I should probably introduce myself. I am Ph.D.
of Folklore in Copenhagen; my thesis was on the early Danish
(pseudo-)historical chronicles of pagan times and their background (which
has little to do with Denmark). For the last few years I have been teaching
Folklore at Copenhagen University and pagan Scandinavian mythology at
Denmark's International Study Program (international students).
I am extremely impressed by the "Saints of the Day" thing. Thank you for
that. Besides the WEMSK on MEDTEXTL it is just about the most useful thing
I ever met on any email list.
Anyway: if you happen to know anything about the introduction of triple
Hermes to "Terwing"-Gothic culture in the time of Athanaric (later 4th
century), please do not hesitate to tell me about it, however scant it may
be. What I have is only a couple of archaeological finds and a picture
which suggest that Athanaric actually identified (triple) Hermes with Odin.
Best
Lars
