medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dr. Jestice wrote:
"Mathilda (d. 968) Mathilda, born in 895, was the second wife of the German
king Henry I. She was active in charitable works and founded several
monasteries, including Quedlinburg. The two vitae of Mathilda show her as
an ideal of royal holiness."
At the expense of a little self-promotion, the Matrix website:
http://matrix.bc.edu contains information about the foundation of
Quedlinburg and Mathilda along with recent photos of the existing church of
saint Servatius, which was once part of this important imperial house of
canonesses.
