This kind of information appears in the census reports, although it does
not go all the way back to 1844 --- and, of course, it is specific to the
different kinds of counties used at one time or another by the
censuses. We have transcriptions of these change lists made for internal
use while constructing our "changing boundary" GIS which need to be
upgraded before they can be published as part of our web site.
