Dear friends
I recently tried to update a display of landranger maps in my department
(the sheets being trimmed to create a continuous stretch of the
north-west). I bought some flat landrangers, cut them up, and stuck them
to a large piece hardboard using a diluted solution of PVA adhesive (50%).
I made a rotten job of this (lots of bubbles that do not conform to the
contours) and wondered if anyone had any hints or suggestions for a
successful job, or knew of a professional company that specialised in this,
ie mounting parts of nine sheets together.
I hope to have mounted a number of single sheet maps for permanent display
on our stairwell. At present there are a number of framed antique prints
that give the students the idea that the main use of maps is in the field
of interior design. I wish to replace these with maps of greater
educational value. These maps I shall get mounted by a local company who
have suggested that I use Foamex rather than MDF. Does anyone have any
experience of Foamex? I'm assured that it is solid unlike foam board.
If anyone would like to see my list of maps that I'm hoping to put up,
e-mail me personally and I'll send it. Can anyone recommend a good
'up-side-down' map of the world, ie with south at the top?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Tinho
