Oh, I'd love to, if I had both OS's budget, staff, databases old and new,
expertise, and, by the way, website with professional programmers. Here's
the scale of things, as described by the OS: "The 1:50,000 Scale Gazetteer
consists of some 250,000 names taken from the Landranger Map Series and can
be used to provide an ideal referencing or location finding tool. The
quality of the 1:50,000 Scale Gazetteer is constantly monitored to ensure
accuracy of the records held." (Sorry, don't have a URL as the OS doesn't
display URLs for most subpages.)
For another list, H-Albion, I was assembling a list of online British and
Irish gazetteers, placename lists, and geographical search engines. When
that's finished I'll post it here--and, yes, I was thinking of using my idle
homepage for this, if I can wrest control from my teenager. If anyone has a
pressing need for anything along that line right now, please ask as I'm
pretty up to date on what's available.
