Dear List,
A few months ago I posted a request for some info on EB Clinical
Examination. I have collated the replies from the list below. Thanks for
all your help: I knew of most of the stuff already, but there was lots of
additional info and tips from the list, and some stuff I hadn't heard off.
I've included a few comments about the sources I'm familiar with.
I don't know how to add attachements, so I've included it in the body of
the message:
Books:
Diagnostic Strategies for Common Medical Problems (by ACP) – often
called ‘Panzer’ ref. due to the name of an author.
Bedside diagnosis "an annotated bibliography of literature on physical
examination and interviewing" by Schneiderman (3rd ed) good comprehensive
book, 300+ refs. which you can buy at:
http://www.acponline.org/public/bedside/index.html -
The Evidence Base of Clinical Diagnosis edited by J A Knottnerus – new, by
the editor of the BMJ series on diagnosis (can be ordered from www.bmj.com
bookshop)
Sapira's Art and Science of Bedside Diagnosis 2/e Highly rated, but
expensive last time I looked
Evidence-based Physical Diagnosis by Steven McGee (One of my favourites – a
small gem!)
Websites:
CARE group (Clinical Assessment of the Reliability of the Examination), at
www.carestudy.com. – probably known to most people. Produced COAD-1, and is
currently recruiting for ‘Headjolt’ – a study to assess the clinical exam
in Meningitis
Canadian and US preventive services task force.
(see http://www.ctfphc.org )
Clinical examination research interest group:

Monthly updates on physical examination evidence from a wide range of
journals: The ClinDX mailing list
http:// clinical.uthscsa.edu/ClinDX/index.html
Evidence Based On Call (EBOC) at www.nelh.nhs.uk and click on EBOC
(requires ATHENS login) has quite a few references relating to examination
& diagnosis. Also available in book form, but the website is updated
frequently
Journals:
