Today (8. February) is the feast day of:
Marina (?) Legend reports that Marina (masquerading under the name
Marinos) entered a men's monastery along with her father. Later, "Marinos"
was accused of fathering an illegitimate child. She accepted the

defense and in the following years lived with the orphan child on the steps
of the monastery. Marina's sex was only discovered when she died.

nobleman from Huy (near Liege). After his return from a pilgrimage to
Jerusalem he was murdered by enemies in Huy. In Huy, Mengold is honored as
a martyr.

1068 when he, a Vallombrosan monk, volunteered to walk through fire to
prove that the bishop of Florence was a simonist. He emerged unseared,
winning the nickname "firey" (Igneus). In 1069 Peter becme prior of the

order of Grandmont. He was born in Thiers in the Auvergne (France) in
1048. He accompanied his father on a pilgrimage to Italy when young, fell
ill, and then stayed in southern Italy, receiving his education at a
monastery. Stephen then returned home, founding a monastic community in
1076 at Muret modeled on those he had seen in Calabria. He led the
community until his death; later the community moved to Grandmont. Stephen
was canonized in 1189.
John of Matha (d. 1213) John, born in France in c. 1160, became a priest
and in 1185 had a vision of the Trinity and received a command from God to
found a religious order in honor of the Trinity. He composed a rule for
the order of the Holy Trinity (Trinitarians), which Innocent III approved
in 1198. The main purpose of the order was (and is?) to gain freedom for
