medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The relics are sent from the Vatican, I believe, when the church is first
built. There is probably a record or history somewhere in the church that
tells about the saint or saints whose relics are in or under the altar.
Current priests may not know whose relics are in their church -- priests
come and go and may serve several parishes in their lifetime. Our parish is
relatively new, and well-informed. The priests know the names of our
saints, and we try to inform the parishioners occasionally. BTW, the quote
someone offered from the Ordinary of the Mass is not something that is said
today -- at least, I have never heard it. Must be pre-Vatican II.
