medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear colleagues
The following hymn have I found at Prime
in a french book of hours (c.1490-1500),
where it is used in connection with
the conception of the Virgin.
Gaude virgo concipiens
Gaude clausa parturiens
Gaude nato resurgente
Gaude illo ascendente
Gaude celo collocata
Pacem nobis da beata
Et sis nobis advocata
Apud deum virgo pia.
Amen.
Since I have no access to Ulysse Chevalier
or Analecta Hymnica am I at a loss what to
say about it?
If there are any liturgists listening
and you recognize something
would any information about its use
in other contexts be highly appreciated.
It is rubricated "Pro secte", and this alone
demands an explanation, especially when it
occurs in a book for private devotion.
If "Secta" refers to the members of an
order could it perhaps be Franciscan.
Thanks in advance
Erik Drigsdahl
