16th International Basement Tectonics Association Conference
19-24 May 2002, Rolla, Missouri, USA
"Basement - Cover Connections"
I am pleased to invite you to attend the 16th International Conference on
Basement Tectonics. This meeting is well known for bringing together
scientists of diverse expertise whom share a common interest in geologic
processes linking the Basement and its Cover. The abstract and registration
deadline for the meeting is April 5th, 2002. Complete details for the
meeting, including registration forms, abstract guidelines, field trip
descriptions, contact information for the theme session organizers etc., is
available at the meeting web site http://www.umr.edu/~geo-geop/ibta/
Theme Sessions
1) Earthquake Hazards (Special Emphasis on the New Madrid Seismic Zone)
2) Economic Mineralization
3) Imaging the Basement: Geophysical and Remote Sensing Methods
4) Hydrologic Systems and Contaminant Transport
5) Geologic History of Basement Terranes
Field Trips
In addition, many important geologic provinces influential to the
development of ideas presented in the theme sessions will be visited by the
several field trips associated with the meeting. The pre-meeting trip will
visit the St. Francois Mountains Terrane, one of the most important
basement uplifts in the mid-continent as well as the New Madrid Earthquake
Hazard Zone." Three mid-conference field trips are planned: 1)
Synsedimentary Tectonism Related to Basement Fault Reactivation, 2)
Paleozoic Cover Rocks of the Mid-continent, and 3) Mississippi Valley Type
Pb-Zn Deposits of the Viburnum Trend, The Doe-Run Pb-Mine. This may be a
very special opportunity to visit this world classic ore deposit underground.
Core Work Shop
Several evening activities are planned, including a core work shop on
Basement Hosted Economic Deposits, with a focus on the Middle Proterozoic
Iron-Copper-Gold Mineralization of the Southeast Missouri Iron Metallogenic
Province.
