medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Christopher,
Sorry to pile more on top of Jim's questions, but what
has basilical status have to do with "cathedralism"?
The word "basilica" has, as far as I know, two
meanings: a church built to house relics; an edifice
in a certain architectural style: nave, perhaps with
side aisles, with a rounded apse at one end. If
there's a rule that a cathedral may not also be a
basilica, I don't know of it.
