medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The Ursulines were sent to New Orleans by Louis XIV or
XV to educate the "colonists." The school founded
there remains the longest-operating and oldest school
for young women in the US. Their museum is fabulous,
housing their charter with Louis's autograph
prominent. They may have been "supposed" to educate
the well-born, but they made it part of their mission
to educate Blacks and Indians as well. A more
coherent, complete and factually accurate statement
will probably be found on their website which should
be available to anyone typing "Ursuline New Orleans"
in his/her "search" area.
